Cardiff City have climbed up to within four points of the Championship play-off spots following their impressive 3-0 victory over Huddersfield on Wednesday evening.

The Bluebirds travelled to the John Smith’s Stadium following a positive run of form and they managed to seal their third win in four league matches courtesy of goals from Josh Murphy, Will Vaulks and Callum Paterson.

Neil Harris’ men also looked good value for the three points as they produced a dominant display against the Terriers, with this meaning the Welsh side are now firmly in contention for the play-offs heading into the final stretch of the season.

A number of Cardiff players have started to find their feet in the side in recent weeks, and one of those is Vaulks who produced another assured performance against the Terriers which he capped off with a fine goal.

Here, we take a look at Vaulks’ numbers from the clash…

Vaulks has started to establish himself in the Cardiff starting line-up in recent weeks and the midfielder completed the full 90 minutes for the fourth consecutive league match as he played a key role during the Bluebirds’ success.

The 26-year-old also managed to net his second goal of the season as he timed his run to perfection in order to volley home a corner delivery, and he then also produced a fine celebration to boot as he displayed his acrobatic abilities.

However, Vaulks’ overall game play was the most impressive aspect of his midfield performance as he recorded an excellent 90% pass completion rate against the Terriers, with this revealing how well he was able to retain possession for his side.

It was clear to see how so much of the Bluebirds’ play went through Vaulks in the centre of the midfield, and this is also indicated in the fact he registered 62 touches of the ball which was the highest of any Cardiff player on the night.

The variation of Vaulks’ midfield play should also be applauded as while many of his passes were indeed short, he also attempted a total of 12 long balls in order to display his willingness to take risks for his side.

The Wales international managed to win three aerial duels throughout the match despite his height only being five foot and nine inches, with this further showing that Vaulks really can operate as an all-round midfielder.

I like Warnock me, but vaulkes seems to be at his best when he plays the game in front of him on instinct. I'm not sure if he could have done that under Neil.
    And he's Welsh to boot
