These laws exist for a reason and workers should use them

Circumstances surrounding companies in these competitive times change.
And the people need to change when needed.

I sympathise with that. I’ll be honest - I am not an employment lawyer so let the courts deal with it

Not in law! And I don't even have a masters in that or passed any professional exams. The lawyers and judges would know better than me

fact is if the employees felt that strongly about it they could do something ,sadly apart from the 300 or so that dosent seem to be the case, industrial action is sometimes the only coarse of action.

And how many of us get paid breaks or even get the chance of breaks? The same goes for having to start early or finish late without much choice in the matter.

He's had how long to find another job, although I suspect he didn't like the idea of having to work more than 6 hours a day.

And now he's probably fucked Christmas for his family. Still, it could be worse, he could've discovered he's been shafted on his pension too

Remember when you used to get time and a half on a Saturday and double time on a Sunday. You do? Well now you get billionaire owners instead.

The other week, @Nugent was complaining, with some justification tbf, about businesses paying low wages which made it harder for other business I.e him, to compete.
Here we have a company, basically trashing the basic workers rights and effectively holding a fund to their heads forcing them to sign an inferior on tract or be fired. I’m pretty sure that’s illegal, I guess we’ll find out soon.

Oh, and Asda is owned by Walmart. An American company. This is the future of post-Brexit Britain.

    Enjoy

Not illegal. Tesco, Sainsbury's and others have already done it.

Royal Mail Parcelforce are currently going through the same thing.

Genuinely shocked at that. Seems crazy that an employer can just change a contract just like that.

I presume that there must be a clause in the original contract that allows it to be revised.

Walmart has owned ASDA for 20 years during which time it has built the chain up to compete with the biggest in the UK. I am sure that even the most cynical can see some benefits to employees in terms of jobs created in the first place.

Competitors have gone up this route already, so it should not be surprising for ASDA to follow to remain competitive.

The alternative would be redundancies and maybe store closures.
