Welcome to the second round of the OOCC Guess the Attendance competitions. These will run for the whole of the 2019 / 2020 season and finish with the Championship Playoff Final next year. There will be two separate competitions which are detailed below. The aim is to have both weekend and midweek rounds each week. 1. Guess the Bluebirds Attendance Competition Throughout the season, I will put up a thread for each of City’s matches about 48 hours before each game. These will be all of the Bluebirds’ home and away games, whether it be a Championship or Cup fixture. A minimum of 48 matches. 2. Random Match Attendance Competition Here we will fill in the gaps between Bluebirds’ fixtures, whether that is midweek or weekend, with a randomly selected league game from elsewhere in the world. Any Wales international match will be included in this version. The Rules and Scoring for each version will be identical. Rules 1. Just enter your guess for the attendance in a post in the thread for that game. 2. One guess, per person, per game. If you wish to change your entry that will be fine but put it on a new post and PM me just in case I have already recorded your entry on my spreadsheet. Do not edit a previous post. . 3. All entries must be submitted no later than one hour before kick-off. 4. To avoid 'tactical' submissions, entrants may PM their entry to me. 5. My declared official attendance will be taken from a reliable source and is final. 6. I am also allowed to play (coordinating this gives me no advantage whatsoever), and no-one is allowed to complain about my scoring, although obvious errors may be pointed out politely. Sarcasm and/or clever-dicky remarks will be dealt with accordingly. I have a long memory! Scoring Consistency over the course of the season is key, but close guesses will be even better rewarded than in the past. I am grateful to @Nugent , who, in his own inimitable fashion, has urged me to look at the scoring system from time to time and also to @Arfur Ap Llewellyn Europe for coming up with the idea of looking at the conundrum from a different direction. This season, points may be awarded to guesses in two ways. Some guesses will earn points from one table only, but many will be awarded points from both. 1. The 20 closest guesses will earn points on a scale decreasing from 20 to 1, so there will always be at least 20 people scoring points. 2. Bonus points can be awarded to a guess, depending on how close that guess is to the official figure. This was the sole basis of last year’s system. Everyone should have the opportunity to score a few points each week, but in the Championship, attendances are going to be more difficult to predict than the sold-out Premier League games. The wider spread of points should provide the opportunity to make up ground more easily, something that was difficult to achieve last season. Examples 1. The poster with the closest guess which is within 1 – 10 of the official attendance will score 20 + 20 = 40 points 2. Someone whose guess is the 4th closest and within 101 - 250 of the official attendance will score 17 + 9 = 26 points. 3. Someone with the 15th closest guess and within 1001 – 2500 of the official figure will score 6 + 2 = 8 points. Finally, a reminder that posters who participate in both of these Attendance Competitions will be eligible to win the £100 Champions of Champions prize at the end of the season, provided that they have also taken part in Pick’em. More details on how that will work to follow next week.
