Doesn't affect those that live in Cardiff..It's designed to keep the likes of you and the R's out so it's a great idea.

I just read that bit on the Wales online article. I live in Cardiff but houses 50 meters away from me are in Rhondda Cynon Taf. Does that mean I can drive into Cardiff for free but people living 50 meters from me cant? I bloody well hope so because it pisses me off I have to drive to Bessemer Close when I want to use a council dump rather than 3 miles to Treforest.

I have no problem with a congestion charge but I agree, £2 isn’t going to stop anyone using their cars, but it will raise revenue that could be invested into public transport.

Is this to tackle pollution levels or raise revenues for the council? Having moved back here from a city that was very anti-car, it wasn't the cars that were causing the pollution in that city centre, but was the buses that were doing the damage, until the uni stepped in and helped develop F1 type energy recovery system onto the then introduced hybrid buses, and made such a difference to the air quality

I pick up the missus from town almost every day so I'm glad to hear they're not charging Cardiff residents. I'd be fucked if we had to move though.

I does, that's why I can't use the bloody Treforest recycling centre. I have to use extra fossil fuels to get stuff to the tip. I wonder if it'd be more carbon neutral to just throw my rubbish into the Taff.

Isnt it strange how all these attempts at saving the planet involve us spending more money?

Perhaps if we had a decent affordable public transport system then people would be more likely to leave their cars at home?

    Just a thought.....

Go past TH63's on a matchday and leave it on his lawn for him to take when he does his. He won't mind.

The plans are for the Crossrail and Circle routes are ambitious but also realistic.
When you add it to the electrification of the valley lines which should be getting underway this year, the brand new tri-mode trains that will start coming in around 2 years, Cardiff Parkway station, and the new cycle lanes being constructed, transport in the City is going to look very different in 10 years.

Totally agree. No way should it be cheaper to use a car than to use public transport. Many cities around the world are adopting free travel within areas of the city, and catching a train out 100+miles costs something like £7. So backward and non-joined up thinking in this country :old:

To be fair, by the standard of many UK cities, Cardiff is pretty well served. It has an extensive and frequent bus service and there are about 20 rail stations. I use the train a lot and with a rail card a return to town costs £2.80 for me and £1 for the kids.
In fact from last week under 16s are now free with an adult.

That should be what the revenue for the congestion charge goes towards, improved and free public transport.

That’s what has been suggested in the piece. They are looking at £1 journeys on the buses, which already exist on some routes.
