I see he’s got a new tv programme out about homophobia in football. Why pick on football? If rugby was so homophobia free why did he take so long to come out? Call my cynical but he keeps on about it on Twitter more than anyone and it’s almost like he’s trying to keep himself relevant enough to keep having these programmes commissioned. It’s 2019 just being gay is pretty old hat I think the large majority don’t care. You’ll always get some old fashioned haters but it’s foolish to think you can convert everyone to a liberal way of thinking.
Worst kept secret in rugby, we knew he was gay twenty years ago, I worked with a bloke who played rugby with Thomas, he said everyone knew back then and nobody made a fuss. Thomas has become a professional gay these days, he uses his sexuality to court fame and fortune.
Is this new then? Not a repeat of the programme from last year. I’m not sure he’s picking on football, he is a City fan after all. I’m guessing he’s just documenting his own experiences. As it goes I find it a bit odd. I honestly don’t particularly recall seeing or hearing homophobic abuse at football over the last decade or so. Apart from maybe the odd Brighton stuff which is just childish crap.
If I hadn’t lost my gold membership I’d give that an absolutely fucking spot on Mad Al. That’s what I was looking for - Professional Gay. My best mate told me years ago he was a left footer. He said they went on rugby tour with the school when they were about 13 to Ogmore with other schools and GT was caught in bed with another boy. My mate denies it was him to this day but I have my suspicions.
You wonder if that story about him getting jumped by a 16 year old on Mill Lane was a set up. If you’re going to go gay bashing there’s smaller targets than 18 stone ex international rugby player Gareth Thomas surely?
I couldn’t give a toss if he, or anyone else is gay. What I can’t get my head around, is that they want to be treated as equals and normal members of society as if their sexuality shouldn’t mark them out as “different”. Which is absolutely fine in my book, but then spend half the time going around saying “look at me I’m gay”. IMHO this just perpetuates the idea in the minds of bigots that they’re different to the rest of us. Straight people don’t go around telling everyone they’re gay. Call me cynical, but by now, if Gareth Thomas had been straight, he’d have been long forgotten about,
Similar to racism, as Morgan Freeman said, if you want to get rid of it, stop constantly talking about it.
I've seen him down the club a few times as a guest speaker unless that kid was a 16 year old Arnold Schwarzenegger there's no chance that story is true
It hasn’t gone unnoticed that since being gay is no longer that taboo, and a lot more acceptable in society, that all these transgender, A sexual, pan sexual (whatever the fuck they mean) descriptions have started cropping up. Like just being gay no longer granbs the attention it used to.
