I can’t believe that we’ve arrived at the situation where a footballer has to explain to anyone why he’s decided not to wear a poppy. If they don’t want to then they don’t want to, it’s none of anyone else’s business.

That's an interesting take on things and, as such, a fair comment.

However, I cannot think of anything in life that actually offends me, but I do despair about the direction society in general is heading.

In this case, I believe that the actions of the footballers are at best naive in not understanding the historical and true significance of the poppy, or at worst, they are politically motivated.

The problem is that the far right and rags such as the Scum and Daily Fail have politicised this to the point where a non poppy wearer is now deemed a 'traitor' in their misguided eyes.

As always with black and white, kneejerk reactions, this will end up having the opposite effect. It's actually taught me about the white poppy, for example, which I'd rather wear if I was a poppy wearer to begin with.

Its been said before, that if the likes of Bliar, Brown, Gideon, Hameron, Thatcher, both Bushes etc had to be first on the battlefield, then wars would cease overnight.

The FAW didn't "shit out", they just carried on as normal when everyone was getting all het up with this ridiculous modern day snowflakey nonsense of trying to pressure everybody into wearing poppies for the sole reason of keeping their own heads fully inflated.

England and Scotland chose to wear poppies for their game because they were playing each other while we were facing bloody Serbia.

    Bang on squire.

On a related note, is it any wonder the UK Military are struggling to recruit?
Listening to a radio report the other day, all three disciplines have massive numbers of vacancies. It made me think of the sheer amount of ex service people dumped by the Govt, living on the streets, and with financial, mental and emotional issues.

That Help The Heroes campaign was a get out of jail card for the Govt, as it meant Joe Public were willingly paying for something the Govt should have been.

    The whole thing stinks.

Its only since 2010 that poppies were first printed on prem shirts so it not exactly a longstanding tradition.
Really wish we could go back to the days of laying a club wreath and that's it.
Causes more problems than its worth in my opinion, seeing this morning that McClean has been sent threatening packages to the training ground. Not a fan of his as a player but he shouldn't have to put up with that shit every year.
