My grandfather would probably played around that time.
He, and his team, would walk from Newport, play at Roath Park then walk back again.
He was a docker, decent player, got picked for Wales then managed to break his hand at work before the match.

If the camera panned to the left you might be able to see the sun glinting off my conservatory.

Remarkably, the view stretch of road has not altered much. A couple of chimney stacks gone and also the ivy. There is some pretty grim rendering on the front garden wall of the corner house and I reckon the dwarf stone wall on the right of the road is the original one. You also realise how intrusive modern road signs are, even though we take them for granted.

The Google one is taken with the panoramic car camera, which results in distortion, particularly of objects closer to the camera. As a result, some things appear further away. I'm sure that the resident OOCC photographer @Arkay Dubya can explain that better.

That's pretty much it TDA. It's the curvature of the wide angle lens that creates the distortion.

This church was bombed during the war it stood on the junction of City rd/Newport Road where Eastgate house is now opposite St James’s church. It was demolished in the 60’s to make way for Eastgate house.
