I think that there used to be regular games between teams from Cardiff and Liverpool where the game was also big.
Recognise a few names on there from the Fairwater side, all nutters.
The Hayes 1954
This photograph of The Hayes taken in 1962 when Cardiff city council had agreed to spend £91,582 on acquiring the Hayes block of buildings, that was only a small part of the immense redevelopment planned for the city's central area.
The canal near Bute Street 1950’s
Love the then and now comparisons. The street light is in the same position in both pics but is the modern one really an improvement?
The Cardiff Arms Hotel pictured before it was demolished in 1878.
James Street swing bridge 1943
This would have crossed the canal which is now park land, to the right is where the bay police station is now
I can remember those turret things on the buildings on the left, under the furthest one was the Avondale pub, used to get in there lunchtimes 1975.
That bloke with the barrow is almost outside Viv Nethercots cafe
I loved that cafe, he had a bar football table in there, happy memories.
I used to work in Allbodies in Dumballs Road I used to have to get all the blokes breakfasts and dinners and I had to go in there and Leyshones for their cobs etc and to a fish shop in Stuart street for their dinner, the use to wrap the chips in the Finacial Times....football on the old canal dinner time.
