Anyone been following this story? Very sad and worrying for them and their families.

A group of young footballers went to shelter from rain in a cave in Thailand and were forced in by rising water. Now they're trapped and if they don't get rescued in the next few days it will be months before its possible. A diver has already died in the cave helping with the rescue.

I've been following it. I read that they may have to wait 4 months or teach the kids to scuba dive and accompany them to get them out. Some parts on the route out are so narrow though that the kids would have to go through on their own. It is difficult enough for experienced divers as demonstrated by the sad loss of life. I believe the 4 month theory is on the back burner now in favour of a quicker rescue. A real pickle this one. I hope there is a happy ending. A very challenging rescue. I notice that the Thais are throwing absolutely everything at this though which is good to see. The weather seems to be a big danger going forward, flooding the complex still further.

Seems something needs to be done quite soon as oxygen levels down there are dropping fast. Apparently it is taking experienced divers about 6 hours to get down to the group, which sort of explains the difficulties faced in getting them out. Terrible story and must be terrifying for the lads and their parents.

Just hope we have an outcome similar to the miners from a few years ago. Also hope the weather in the area is kind.

Apparently it's carbon dioxide that's the problem. They can pump oxygen in but if co2 gets too high then they can get blood poisoning. The dozens of rescuers are making it worse.

What an absolutely horrendous situation. I hope they can figure out some way to get those kids out of there but it's certainly not going to be easy.

Yeah that's the massive irony. The more they tend to them the more they are degrading the air. They will have to call it soon and do something I think. Dreadful conundrum.

What a decision to make. Once they start the evacuation they probably need to follow it through, as a return would be psychologically damaging. But it's 2.5km, imagine trying to do that when you cant even swim let alone use scuba equipment. As said above, harrowing.

I was wondering because the lads are so small if they couldn't be pulled through the small tricky bits by rope but again what an undertaking. Almost zero visibility in parts and strong currents. The divers who are getting to these lads are world leading experts mixed with super motivated Thai navy divers. For a child? Well I hope that the childlike I can do stuff attitude can pay off and maybe not think about it too much and just do it. I can't imagine how it must feel to be a parent camped on that wet mountain side.

Bloody hell. The parents must be on pins waiting. The first boys should be out about 2pm our time give or take. A very long and complicated rescue and will quite honestly be nothing short of a miracle if it all happens smoothly..
