Great listen that, very interesting how much responsibility he put on players and why

What he said at the end as well about corners because it drives me mad why we would pull every player back for the opposition to pin us back even if we would win the ball or even give them more opportunities to add more players to potentially score :shrug2:

In academy football there is more and more onus about getting kids to make their own decisions.
That's where futsal has come from in this country.

There are some good interviews on there. I noticed one buy Thomas Tuchel, also Villa Boas and there's one by Puyol and Xavi.

I’m not sure where these top clubs in Man City’s case go with academy’s when they’re paying 20 grand a week to 17 year olds :yikes:, Germany seem to have a good system going at the moment Schalke are producing a fair amount of youngsters, bayer and Dortmund have good systems in place

I don't think that's the fault of the academies but the obscene amount of money in the premier league. I read an article from Oliver Beirhoff saying that the German model (youth development itself) isn't working any more and they are going to follow the English model

I really think we should start thinking about some kind of salary cap tbh especially at youth level as we’re not teaching these kids anything handing them out that sort of wage, i liked the idea that cruyff had about the mix of youth home grown talent and a percentage of foreign players being allowed in the squad but will never happen in premier league with the amount of money they’re making, I know a few clubs are starting to see the benefit of maybe we invest in our own grown players rather than spunking 80/90 million away it’s a difficult one when clubs up the top are under so much pressure for success and the bottom clubs are under so much pressure with spending, it’s a shame to hear that about Germany as they were one of the first I think it was 2006? To decide they had to strip it all back and start investing in the next generation.

I don't mean follow the English model of spending money on players, I mean follow the model of youth development. English football has always been looked down upon due to our lack of technical footballers being produced but now we genuinely are among the elite when it comes to coaching kids since the introduction of the England DNA.

It's based on creativity and giving kids at a younger age freedom of expression. Beirhoff has recognised that the coaching in Germany is strangling creativity hence why they're looking to Britain and signing players like Sancho, Nelson, Ampadu etc.

What Cruyff wants won't happen cos of Bosman etc and freedom of movement.

Really good that. Sometimes I think Keane plays up to his image but that was really good

Sorry I got what you meant the money thing was a separate thing I threw in there, ok this year Lampard is giving the kids a chance and I’d like to think maybe to a lesser extent he still would’ve even if not forced, something I’ve never liked about that club is how they’ve had such amazing talent there the past 10 years? Maybe a bit less and haven’t incorporated them correctly and just spent fortunes on mercenaries and sent 80 players on loan every year just my opinion but haven’t even looked like keeping them on, one of the comments I liked and something ourselves are useless at Is when he spoke about you bring that one player through and you end up with an ambassador for life

Absolutely. You look at Gerard and Carragher etc they're Liverpool for life, same with the class of 92, same with Xavi, Iniesta, Puyol etc.

We have have no ambassadors whatsoever. Even when we kind of do, our fans think of our legends in the mould of Mcnaughton, Perry, Dwyer etc rather than thinking players who are more likely to take the club forward.
