Remember that bloke who spaffed £50m of public money up against the wall for a garden bridge over the Thames that never got built?

Grayling cost Britain billions. Should never be allowed near decision making again. Some estimate the cost of his blunders to be £2.7 billion pound. They are still being fixed today. The probation service for one. The man was a walking disaster.

There must be tons of these scenarios, id hate to see a list of how much money we’ve thrown away as it would make a right mockery of how we actually have poverty

£500m doesn't buy an awful lot, even if it does seem an obscene amount of money to the average person.

But putting it in perspective, we employ around 42,000 people in the space sector here in the uk, the vast majority of that is in satellite technology, which generated £14.8bn in income in the last set of annual figures released. But I guess that doesn't make a good news story

Britain’s top civil Sir Mark Sedwill is to stand down from his dual jobs as cabinet secretary and national security adviser in September

The decision comes as part of Boris Johnson’s overhaul of the team of officials at the top of government, with his chief Brexit negotiator David Frost to replace Sedwill as national security adviser in an appointment likely to prove controversial given his lack of experience in intelligence or security.

Yep the problem is it's not just one mistake costing just 500mil its mistake after mistake costing money after money or in the case of botched orders of protective equipment for covid not just money after money but lives after lives.

So we've switched from what we can or can't do with satellite equipment to finding fault with foreign countries piss poor manufacturing processes just because it suits your political drum you want to beat? By christ this govt ain't perfect, far from it. But these have been desperate times and they tried to source what they could from wherever was available. Or would you rather there was no checks this end and the inferior ppe was just sent straight to the front line without question?

When we have one of the worlds highest covid deaths and estimated to suffer one of worlds biggest financial hits I think the most pressing question is how many press ups can our prime minister do.

Boris Johnson slaughtered on Twitter for 'doing press-up to prove how fit he is' - https://www.thenational.scot/news/18547129.boris-johnson-press-up-sunday-mail-front-page-sparks-ridicule/

The above idiot has been in power a little over 6 months and the countries a fucking laughing stock.

But let's ignore the two biggest economies and what has happened and been hidden, and what is currently happening to the other, shall we?

And yes, this govt has only been power 6 months. Would any other govt/party be any more equipped to handle it? You can't say with any confidence that it would've handled it any better. And yes, the blonde clown has been seen doing press ups. Yet he was 8n intensive care with the virus not so long ago. Even he wasn't immune from getting this horror of a virus. But as you've seen on a daily basis, are the halfwits of the general public taking heed and keeping safe and shortening the life of this virus?

But all that matters is that he was seen doing a press up, and that's the be all and end all? Get a grip mate. This country and world doesn't just revolve around a few headlines and tweets, for a bit of political bashing, despite how you may want to view it as such

Me get a grip? A few facts off the top of my head.

    Johnson missed 5 cobra meetings.

Johnson shock hands with people with the illness by choice and Johnson duly caught coronavirus himself.

Britains chief covid scientist (Fergusson) resigned for breaking social distancing guidelines by being caught with a married women

Johnsons second in command Cummings thought it a good idea to drive to Durham whilst his family had covid symptoms. He then drove a car 20 miles to test his eyesight.

Doctors, Nurses and frontline staff have all complained about a shortage of ppe.

Deaths in care homes have been extortionate.

Britain, whilst having the geographical benefit of being surrounded by water has the second highest death rate in the world.

Our "world beating" rack and trace system trialled in the isle of wight went down within 10 minutes.

Our prime minister is on the front page of a world wide selling newspaper doing press ups.

Like it or not, we're a laughing stock.

So you still want to ignore your original argument about the £500m in satellite equipment because that isn't what you really wanted to discuss, but it was all about lets jump about on random subject matters just to batter a political party that you have a dislike of?

We might be an island, but we are the biggest hub for international travel. So that might've had more than a slight bearing on matters.

And outside the US, we probably have the most stupid population, who even now, still think they are immune from catching and passing it on. As they say, you can't educate stupid. And reason why we're not seeing off this virus like other countries have managed to do. A government can only do so much, regardless of which party is/was in charge.

Yes, I accept they were definitely slow off the mark in handling this virus. And by far, their biggest mistake was moving people out of hospitals and into care homes without testing in place. But then again, the world was struggling to find reliable testing kits. So no win there, and a different party in charge wouldn't have solved that issue any quicker.

Yet all that seems to matter to you was that Boris was pictured doing press ups this weekend. Is that really the most important thing you can focus on? See beyond a photo opportunity that Sunday papers jumped on, and debate the real issues

You hate the Tories, I get that. So do most on this forum, and I'm finding myself moving more into this camp too. But thankfully most on this forum realise what a set complex of issues these matters are. It's not about siding with any side, it's about taking the blinkers off and seeing the bigger picture, which you appear to be strughling with. It's lazy to just look at a photo, soundbite and limited tweets and think you can form a balanced viewpoint just from that
