Some of us have bet against the euro, leveraging up with CFDs. Time will tell but it's looking good.
Some of us aren’t financial experts with more money than we know what to do with.
Time will tell but it’s looking shit
Not from where I'm sat. I could liquidate today's position and short the euro again and still come out trumps tomorrow
What he said.
In a nutshell I'm betting against the price movement of the euro, its like spread betting. As it's a bet against movement and not the underlying asset value, the gains can be huge, but so can the losses.
If you have enough to cover your position and you have available cash, you can make a few quid.
I've got £12.70
Worth a punt?
You're not going to get much for that.
I'll just use it to stock up on bread.
Then sell it at a vast profit to the starving millions after Brexit.
I’m thinking of shorting my trousers and going long on my nightshirt. Might be a bit warm at night until the weather breaks, but I think in the long run it’ll be fine.
I wish I understood investing. Can never get my debt head around it.
If you can afford to lose it - go for it. That's how I've always understood it in plain terms...like a bet
I just don’t get this shorting and longing malarkey bud. My brain just doesn’t see it.
I liquidated a fiver once.
Left it my trouser pocket when they went in the wash
Why bring me into it?
It's not investing its speculating.
Shorting, or short selling, is where you take a position in that you hope the asset price falls. You borrow say 500 shares valued at £1k, you dont own the shares and you give the lender £1k cash as security.
You have to give the lender 500 shares back. If the share price falls to £1.50 you need £750 to buy 500 shares to close your position. When you close your position you receive your initial £1k, pocketing £250.
It's the opposite of playing the long game, or taking a long position, where you hope asset values rise.
Shorting is good because it puts liquidity into the system.
