No point in looking in lower wenvoe then.

If we find life, no matter how primitive, within our solar system, then the chances are there is intelligent life out there

    Agreed.
But what if WE are the most intelligent life out there?

Assuming we have been searching for 50 years and found nothing via radio communications. If intelligent life was doing the same as us , we would have heard them by now.

Those radio signals were 500million years old. What signals will our ancestors in 50million years pick up?

But those signals would be constantly out there to be received the minute you switched your radio on.

Until we start exploring the further dimensions than the standard 4 that we normally use, not too sure how much further we are going to get in identifying life out there.

It would be a truly monumental achievement to find anything but I’d settle for 3 points today personally.

With the infinite number of systems / planets, the likelihood is that life would have evolved elsewhere, but really, can the cost involved in something like looking for a needle in a haystack be justified?

There's definitely life somewhere in the universe, and I reckon life has definitely existed in this galaxy at some stage (maybe even now). The chances that our paths will ever cross are 0. There are 100,000,000,000 stars in the Milky Way.

Life may exist in environments where oxygen is not abundant, because life may adapt to live breathing other gases.

I'd love for us to find life somewhere, intelligent or not. It would fuck off the religious people because their paper thin theories will be blown out of the water.

We won't know anything for centuries though, probably the most exciting thing that could happen in my lifetime is man landing on Mars. Or, a proper exploration of Europa. We cannot comprehend the vast size of the Universe, or even this solar system.

I disagree. Any sign of life on another planet would be significant. There is speculation that we may have, unwittingly, started life on Mars by sending probes covered in bacteria.
